I never trusted the electric winch on the used camper I purchased. It was loud, sounded cleaved, rusty, found metal shards in it, and I didn't like that information technology relied on the battery. Final time I camped (second time in this trailer) it started to crap out on the manner downwardly. I was able to go it working to get the top downwards. Part of this involved the backup transmission crank, simply this was literally taking forever I didn't desire rely on the backup system anymore. It would take hours to get information technology all the way up or down. It also looked like the commodities was stripping - mayhap previous owners used a wrench on it?

This was on a 2015 Flagstaff MAC 207.

We ofttimes camp in Colorado far from ability or aid so I didn't like that it started to not piece of work correctly.

But I decided to replace it with a transmission winch that I ordered direct from Goshen Stamping (very helpful in finding the right model I needed). I ordered a cable too, but didn't replace the cable. But have it as a dorsum up in the trailer now.

My door e'er had a gap at the top also. Replacing the winch allowed me to raise information technology a touch on higher so I can get the door to attach correctly ( I know I could adapt the electric winch). Hopefully, this helps the trailer stay warmer too without this gap. And more square with the frame - it would shift a bit without the door fully secure.

Task took me two hours in 100 degree woods fire smokey Denver!! But was able to wrap upwards but equally the kid woke upwardly from the nap!

here is my journey. Excuse the blood!

And let me know if you see any issue.

In other news, I have an electric winch for sale now!!

Old electric winch:

under the electric winch:

New winch going on, just put it on loose to start:

putting the cable on:

Door now closes and get the extra acme I need:

new winch on:

Former cover doesn't fit. I need to cut the side open on this one I recollect;

Let me know if yous see any bug or anything I should await out for. I am not overly handy, but I was able to do this. And I feel much more comfy nigh taking my trailer out. It takes about the aforementioned amount of time to get trailer up and downwards.

Going to have a cold beer and stare at my new winch now...

Merely an update. I redid how the cable attaches to the winch after watching this video. It gave me issues the first tine putting it on, but adding the kink 2 inches down really help it fit correctly in the bracket. I didn't have a new pic, but the video explains information technology well

I did the aforementioned thing yous did. I removed the electric winch and install a transmission one from etrailer. Just I also go the socket Giene adapter and a Dewalt i/2 inch drive 20Volt Max cordless drill to enhance and lower the top. You won't believe how much happier I am.

I wanted to accept a moment to say a HUGE thank you to everyone in this thread. My married man and I have had increasing problems with the electric winch on our 2007 Rockwood camper. Thank you to you guys, we at present have so much more peace of heed with raising and lowering our camper (it got stuck upward recently, a billion turns of the override commodities afterward, nosotros finally got it down). Anyway, I called Goshen on Monday, received the transmission winch on Wednesday, and information technology took usa about two hours to alter the cable and install the new winch today. Nosotros are both pretty handy simply I think the directions from Goshen were spot on, considering that multiple campers likely use the same winch. My personal recommendation is to change the cable, too - might also while you're taking stuff apart and it was included in that ii 60 minutes fourth dimension frame, so information technology'south totally achievable in a day. The video Geog100 was super duper helpful too. Be sure to read Goshen's directions carefully and get in their order of operations and you'll be fine. We can't wait to go back out - thanks everyone!

I take a 2017 Rockwood 1970ESP (farthermost sports). Incredible status - barely used and was garage kept since new when I bought it a few months ago. However, the power winch was totally inconsistent when I would adjust it to stop. I have had another Rockwood Freedom and was able to adjust it in the past but this one would not consistently end in the same identify. I saw youtube videos on this and how some of the power winches bent things when they went bad. I ordered the manual winch and used the information here to replace it final night. Only took ~90 minutes to do information technology. Works nifty and can totally stop at any point or go along since it is transmission. A mere xl easy cranks and it is up! (very easy) and much more quiet for sure!
I used my 4" side grinder with a cutoff wheel to cut the cable (put electrical tape on the area I planned to cut. Remember to bend the cable ii" from the end to make attaching the cable like shooting fish in a barrel.
I guess I will cut the hole in the winch comprehend for the creepo bigger.
Has anyone found a place to guild a new winch cover? I would be interested in ordering i merely will use the old i for the time being.
Thank you all who contributed the data - it was an like shooting fish in a barrel replacement.
