Guild Wars players uncover a blade invisible in the game for eight years
A blade that had remained hidden in the original Order Wars for eight age was finally determined away sleuthing fans sooner this week.
Silver Butt against, a sword called later 1 of the game's much prolific Wiki contributors, would have likely remained undiscovered if non for a tease from former ArenaNet developer Matthew Moore. Last week, Henry Moore responded to X-Vlambeer developer JW Nijman's need newsworthy easter eggs by unselfish one of his own—on with a crumb of a clue to leave players a long-overdue starting point.
In that respect's a weapon hidden in the original Guild Wars that I don't think anyone's saved all the same. The seeds of this secret were planted a little earlier, with an anonymous wiki poster claiming last August that they'd "heard from an ex-dev" about a riddle related to the Xunlai Archivist NPCs. More official that they were indeed onto something, and with the forward sign down, players immediately got to work trying to hunt knock down this secret.
Much of their go on is logged on a Reddit thread—and while trying not to spoil the surprisal too much, Moore does chip in now and again to try and point the MMO detectives in the far-right guidance (none, frogs aren't up to my neck). But even as helium contacted fellow former devs to try and weigh in on the puzzle, there was a knockout chance the token was flat-KO'd broken after nearly a decade of updates.
"It's eight-years-old, unmonitored, unmaintained content", Moore admitted in a wiki post. "Will it oeuvre? In all probability. But even if you buns cobble in collaboration the specific steps to perform this magic trick, it also may not."
Thankfully, the easter egg hush whole caboodle—and was eventually discovered yesterday by redditor Evaziel. Energizing several requirements (Fortune Of The Gods and Lucky Aura), Evaziel Ate a cupcake (tasty!) in front of an Nonproliferation Center named Kilroy in Lake Drakkar, ahead exploitation an ability named Light Of Deldrimor. That effect summons a Ash gray Vaettir who, when killed, drops the extended-hidden blade.
The sword itself International Relations and Security Network't particularly special. It shares an appearance with blades that are right easier to prevail, and its stats aren't earth-shattering. But IT stands as a trophy to the community's fact-finding prowess, and effectively immortalises one wiki contributor's key out in the biz.
Altogether said, it took just below three years for the community to produce the sword afterwards discovering its cosmos. That's around remarkably fast sleuthing. But Moore admits that, "knowing what [helium does] nearly puzzle design now", he could've ready-made the puzzle a little better—or at least, not get left over it lying in hush for nearly a decennium.
